Gary Cole

Gary Cole, 63, died Tuesday, October 20,2020 from the devastating effects of Parkinson’s Disease.

He was born in Fulton, NY to the late Evelyn (Flack) Cole and Edwin T. Cole. He completed the family by joining his older brother Ross in 1956.

Dorian, his wife of 36 years survives him as well as his brother-in-law Robert (Julia Berdej) Reilly, two nephews, William and Christopher, a niece Diane and thirteen first cousins.

Gary was a retired member of the Union of International Operating Engineers Local 158. Countless local projects both public and private contain his work. He was always outdoors, preferably hunting, fishing or snowmobiling, but all of these pleasurable pastimes became impossible as his disease progressed.

His profound sense of humor was a gift and he shared it often. You simply laughed when you were with him.

Gary was a member of the Poor Folks Snowmobile Club and previously sat on the Board of Assessment Review for the Town of Sterling.  Years ago he served on the advisory board for the now defunct Sterling Valley Sportsman’s Association. (He always said he wanted that in his obituary.)

He tolerated his wife’s passion for the races at the Oswego Speedway and managed to become a fan himself as time went on.

A service is nothing he would have wanted, so that wish is being granted.  As he used to like to tell people, “Don’t worry if you don’t make it to mine, I won’t be coming to yours.”

In lieu of Food, Flowers and Donations, a simple card would be greatly appreciated.

The arrangements are in the care of the Sugar & Scanlon Funeral Home, 147 W. 4th. St.
