Sebastian “Saby” Murabito, 91, of Oswego died Wednesday in St. Luke Health Services, Oswego. Mr. Murabito was born in Oswego the son of the late Joseph and Nancy (LaFortuna) Murabito. He was the owner and operator of Wilson’s Food Market in Oswego from 1949 until 1969, he then began working as a meat cutter at P & C Foods, in Oswego until his retirement in 1987. Mr. Murabito was a communicant and usher at St. Joseph Church, he was a former member of the Knights of Columbus, the ELKS Lodge and the Dante Alighieri. Mr. Murabito was predeceased by his wife Helen Murabito in 2004. He is survived by his children Joanne Murabito of Oswego; Michael (Joanne) Murabito of Maryland; Stephen (April) Murabito of PA; John (Frances) Murabito of Liverpool; his sister Mary Phyllis (Arthur) Fleishman of Syracuse; brother Rev. Angelo Murabito of Syracuse; seven grandchildren, and nieces, and nephews. Funeral services will be Monday 10:00 a.m. at the Sugar & Scanlon Funeral Home 147 W. 4th. St. Oswego. Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Oswego. There are no calling hours.
I worked with Sabby in the 1980’s at P&C. He was a wonderful man, a gentleman and he always had a smile and a joke or two. He will be missed.. He was part of a bygone era that I will remember fondly. Please know that your family and friends will be in my thoughts and prayers.
I remember your Dad as a friendly and cheerful fellow; in short… a good man. My mother (Margaret) bought all of her groceries from your parents. She liked and respected them and certainly missed their store “Wilsons” when it closed.
