Jack “John” Lavaway

Jack “John” Lavaway, 71; of Fulton passed away at Oswego Hospital, Oswego after a long illness. He was born in Amberg, Germany to the late Robert and Hildegard (Staffius) Lavaway. Mr. Lavaway has been a resident of Fulton since the 1970’s. Mr. Lavaway was proud American Disabled Veteran having served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War from 1965-1967. He retired from CT Light & Power after 33 years where he worked as an Electrician. Mr. Lavaway was also employed with National Grid and the Veteran’s Administration Hospital. Mr. Lavaway was a member and past commander of the following veteran groups: Fulton VFW Post #569, Tarpon Springs VFW, FL., and AMVETS, FL. He was also a member of the Fulton Polish Home. Mr. Lavaway is survived by his wife Rita Lavaway of Fulton, 3 sons: Karl Lavaway, Mathew Lavaway, and Sean Lavaway all of Parish, NY; 4 step-children: Mandy Vieni of Fulton, John Schloeder of SC, Nicole Halsey of Cleveland, NY, and Corey Halsey of Fulton, his brother Mark Lavaway of CT and FL, 8 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be conducted 4:00-6:00 PM Wednesday at the Sugar Funeral Home, Inc., 224 W. 2nd St. S., Fulton with the Funeral Service to follow at 6:00 PM with Rev. Sandra Rude officiating. Inurnment will be held privately in Bath National Cemetery, Bath, NY with military honors to be bestowed by the United States Navy Honor Guard.
