Howard G. Christensen

Howard G. Christensen, 82; a longtime resident of Fulton and Oswego passed away peacefully Tuesday at Morningstar Nursing Care Facility, Oswego. He was born at the Norwegian Hospital, Brooklyn, NY in 1935 to the late Howard and Mabel Christensen. Mr. Christensen attended Kindergarten in 1940 at PS127, Brooklyn, NY where he met his future wife Marilyn Miller. He later graduated from Fort Hamilton High School. Mr. Christensen entered the United States Navy in 1952. In 1953 Howard convinced Marilyn to marry him 13 years after their first meeting and the ceremony was performed at the Chapel on the Naval Base in Key West, FL. He remained in the Navy as a Sonar Man 2nd Class until 1956 when he was honorably discharged. Mr. Christensen retired from the New York State Police. He served as a Trooper from 1962-1983 working in the Bureau of Criminal Investigation as a Senior Investigator which included several undercover assignments. Mr. Christensen began working with Niagara Mohawk in 1983 at Nine Mile where he was named Manager of Nuclear Security in 1994. He later retired in 2001. Mr. Christensen is survived by his wife Marilyn Christensen of Oswego, and their 4 children: Dorene (William) Hiestand of VA, Cheryl Ballou of Oswego, NY; Russell Christensen of New Haven, NY; and Gregory (Katherine) Christensen of OR, 8 grandchildren: Alexander and Madeleine Hiestand, Collin, Ashley, and Caitlyn Ballou, Noah Christensen, Daniel and Andrew Christensen; and 7 great grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be held privately. The Sugar & Scanlon Funeral Home, 147 West 4th St., Oswego, NY has care of the arrangement.
