
Frank W. Bartello, 80, a resident of Oswego, died Sunday April 16, 2017, in Oswego Hospital.
Born in Oswego, he was the son of the late Michael and Marie (Scharf) Bartello. A life resident, he was educated in the Oswego schools and was a graduate of Oswego High School in 1955 and Oswego State University in 1959. He later pursued graduate studies at Oswego State. Mr. Bartello was married at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on August 22, 1959, to Carol A Bishop, his wife of 57 years. A few years later, he served as Eucharistic Minister at St. Mary’s and was president of the Parish Council. Also in 1959, he began his teaching career in the Oswego City School District where he started as a Driver Education teacher and then went on to teach Industrial Arts and Technology Education. While at the high school, he served as adviser for both the junior and senior classes. At the middle school he served as school auditor and technology club adviser. He taught for more than 35 years, retiring in 1994.
Mr. Bartello served as president of the Oswego High School Band Parents Association, was a past member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, the Elks, The Sons of the American Legion, and a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Granby Senior Citizens. Mr. Bartello enjoyed reading, music, theater, gardening, and traveling, camping, and spending time with family and friends.
Surviving are his wife, Carol; his two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy Auyer (Craig) and Linda Goewey (Dean); his grandchildren, Stephanie, Stephen, Nicholas, Matthew and Alexander. Also surviving are his brothers, Richard and James; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 9 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.
Entombment will be in All Saints’ Mausoleum.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 4 – 6 p.m. at the Sugar & Scanlon Funeral Home, 147 W. Fourth St., Oswego.
