Bernadine”Bernie”  Fragale, a resident of James Square, Syracuse, NY since April 23,2007 died peacefully at St. Joseph Hospital Sunday December 9, 2012 after a brief illness. Bernie was born in Rome, NY on December 23, 1919, but spent much of her youth in Altmar, NY until she married her husband Michael Fragale, February 11, 1939 in Oswego, where she lived for many years. She spent many years of her life working hard on their small self-sustaining farm in Oswego. Bernie was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, and a very devoted Catholic. Bernie was predeceased by her husband Michael on November 3, 2001, and her son Joseph July 2, 1960. Bernie is survived by her sons Michael J. (Tracy) Fragale of NM, Christopher G. (Annette) Fragale of Oswego, daughters Theresa J. (Robert) Domachowski of Liverpool, Mary Lenz of Liverpool, Anne (John) Filk of E. Aurora, 21 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 2 brothers Hollis (Marilyn) Mellen of Oswego, Harlow Mellon of Radisson and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Friday 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church, Oswego where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Burial will be St. Peter’s Cemetery, Oswego. Calling hours will be Thursday 4:00 –7:00 at the Sugar & Scanlon Funeral Home 147 West Fourth Street, Oswego.  The family wishes to thank the staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital, especially the dedicated and caring staff in the Palliative Unit, as well as the caring staff at James Square Nursing Home.
