Samuel Barbasso, 96, of Oswego died Thursday June 8, 2017 in St. Luke Health Services, Oswego. Mr. Barbasso was born in Oswego the son of the late Joseph and Rose (Virgo) Barbasso. Mr. Barbasso was a First Sergeant in the United States Army serving during WWII. He was a purchasing agent for Cyclotherm Boiler Works, Oswego for many years, and later worked as a traveling salesman for Rumetco, Syracuse until his retirement at the age of 91. He was a communicant of St. Joseph Church where he served as an Usher. He loved to golf and play baseball. Mr. Barbasso was predeceased by his wife Darlene Barbasso in 1988, and his sisters Frances Canale, and Rose Kramer. He is survived by his sister Carmella Wolfe of Delaware, and his nieces and nephews Geraldine and John Knosp, of Oswego; Donna and David Brown; Karen and Michael Walker; Roger and Rosemary Mullens, Joe and Michelle Wolfe; David and Cherie Wolfe; Leon Kramer, and Renee Kramer. Funeral services will be Thursday June 15, 2017 at noon following the calling hours, at the Sugar & Scanlon Funeral Home. Burial will be held in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Oswego. Calling hours will be conducted Thursday 10:00 to 12:00 noon at the Sugar & Scanlon Funeral Home 147 West 4th St. Oswego, NY 13126.
I’m sorry we had to miss services for Uncle Barb. His sister, Carmela is not in good health, and could not travel to Oswego, nor could I her daughter. She will surely miss him and our annual birthday visits to Oswego. His sister, loved to visit during Harbor Fest so they could walk to the fireworks, but also whenever possible. She talks about when she was little and he would walk her home from their aunt and uncle’s house. We had wonderful visits, and Gerry and Karen took care to include him in all family gatherings.
