Mary Vona

Mary Vona, 91, of Oswego died peacefully Friday in St. Luke Health Services, Oswego. She was born in Oswego the daughter of the late Andrew and Catherine (Gentile) Boni. Mrs. Vona was a former secretary at Seymour Insurance Company, Oswego, and later she worked in the Library at Kingsford Park School, Oswego. She was a communicant of St. Joseph Church and St. Anne’s Society. Mrs. Vona was predeceased by her husband John Vona in 1971, and her daughter Nancy Vona in 1952, and grandchildren Heather McNear, and Todd Middlebrook, and brothers Theodore and George Boni. Mrs. Vona is survived by her daughters Betty (Harry) McNear of NC, Mary (Michael) Shanley of Oswego, Patricia (Lawrence) Dalton of Rochester, Margaret (Daniel) Whitaker of Auburn, Joan (William) Gallagher of Oswego, and her brother Joseph Boni of Oswego, sister Rosalie Bauer of WI, eleven grandchildren, Susan (Jim) Fradenburg, Karen (Eric) Johnstone, Meredith (Greg) Furlong, Kristin Shanley, Scott Shanley, Stephen (Heather) Middlebrook, Sarah (Steve) Wetherbee, Liza Whitaker, Samantha Whitaker, Brian Gallagher, Matthew Gallagher, and nine great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday 9:30 a.m. from the Sugar & Scanlon Funeral Home, and 10:00 a.m. in St. Joseph Church. Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery. Calling hours will be Tuesday 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home 147 West Fourth St. Oswego. Donations may be made to the Oswego Library.
