Mary Ann Buske, 71; of Minetto passed at her home after enduring an extended illness. She was born in Oswego, NY to the late Joseph and Mary Jane (LoSurdo) Ruggio. Mary Ann has been a resident of Minetto for most of her life. She received a master’s degree in education from SUNY at Oswego State, Oswego, NY. Mrs. Buske had taught 2nd grade at Fairley Elementary School, Hannibal for 38 years. She was a member of the NYS Teacher’s Union and had served as Union President with the local chapter. Mary Ann was also a volunteer with the Oswego Minor Hockey Association for many years while her son played with the association. Her family described teaching children as her life’s work. Mrs. Buske was a fervent advocate of academic inclusion and she had no problem ever lending an extra hand to a child who may have had special needs. She also enjoyed animals and especially loved her time spent with her kitties. Mary Ann was a devout Catholic and communicant of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church.
She was predeceased by her sister Mrs. Lynda Feeney.
Mrs. Buske is survived by her husband of 50 years Wayne E. Buske of Minetto; their children: Kim Marie (David) Shepard of FL, Steven (Caitlin Brown) Buske of Fulton; 3 siblings: Kathy (David) Rutkowski of Ticonderoga, NY, Robert (Kathleen) Ruggio of Oswego, Theresa (Fred) LePine of Oswego; 3 grandchildren: Quinn Shepard, Riley Shepard, Evan Shepard, numerous beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and also her furry babies: Sunny, Tiny Tiger and Mindy. The funeral Service will be held at 10 AM Thursday at CTGS at St. Joseph’s Church, Oswego.
Burial will be held at St. Peter’s Cemetery, Oswego. Calling hours will be conducted 4:00 to 6:00 PM Wednesday at Sugar & Scanlon Funeral Home 147 W. 4th St., Oswego, NY.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested that you may bring a new book for an elementary-age child which will then be donated to a local elementary school. Capacity Limits and Masks for the Unvaccinated apply in adherence with NYS Mandates.

Mary Ann was my classmate in grade school and high school, we lost touch over the years. I remember her as being very sweet. So sorry to hear of her passing and my sincere condolences & prayers go out to her family during this very difficult time.
