Marion E. Green

Marion E. Green, 64, of East Albany St. Oswego, died Friday in the Oswego Hospital after a short illness. She was born in Oswego the daughter of the late Clarence and Gladys Whalen. Marion earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Liberal Arts from SUNY Oswego. She retired September 29, 2010 as Library Clerk after forty-six years from the Penfield Library on the campus of SUNY Oswego. Marion was a parishioner at St. Mary’s Church, and she was commissioned Lay Minister for Catholic Churches, and earned her advanced Lymex minister’s degree. She was the historian for St. Mary’s Church. Marion enjoyed writing mysteries, and won the new voices award for her writings. Through her writings she was able to see the Oswego players perform one of her plays she wrote. Marion would write reviews about plays performed by the Oswego players for the Oswego Palladium Times and The Fulton Patriot. She would review books for well-known authors before publication. She was a volunteer for the Literacy, United Way, and chairperson for SUNY Oswego Toys for Tots. Marion received many awards for her volunteering and in creative writing. Her husband Robert Green, and her brother Henry Whalen predeceased her. Marion is survived by her sisters Edna Angelina of Oswego, Linda (James F.) Pryor of Granby, sister-in-law Betty Whalen of Oswego, stepdaughter Kelley Burch of WI, aunt B. Forsyth of Oswego, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and her faith companion Frankie. Funeral services will Wednesday 9:00 a.m. from the Sugar & Scanlon Funeral Home, Oswego and 10:00 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church. Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Oswego. Calling hours will be Tuesday 4:00 –7:00 p.m. at the funeral home 147 West Fourth St. Oswego. The family has requested in lieu of flowers contributions be made to St. Mary’s Building Fund or The Oswego Players.
