Grace Elizabeth (Savona) Chillemi

Grace Elizabeth (Savona) Chillemi, 91, a lifelong resident of Oswego and parishioner of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, passed away peacefully with family by her side, on Wednesday, June 5, 2024.

Grace was born on May 25, 1933, to Joseph and Stella (Azzarelli) Savona, and was a graduate of Oswego High School. She married the love of her life, Deacon Joseph Chillemi, in June 1952. They were married for 58 years until his death in 2010.

Grace enjoyed being a homemaker for most of her life, but she also worked at Snyder & Mackin and the Oswego City School District. She was also active in her church as a member of the St Joseph’s Altar Society and Golden Ages, and spent a lot of time with her family.  She loved to read, entertain, and shop, especially with her sister Ginny. She was very proud of her Italian heritage.

Grace is survived by her three children, Barbara Gianetto of Huntersville, NC, James (Lisa) Chillemi of Harrisburg, NC, and Anne Marie (Greg) Walczak of Oswego; six grandchildren, Christina (Jeffrey) Barker of Brewerton, Jennifer (Aaron) Rowan of Huntersville, NC, Anja (Anthony Simmons) Chillemi of Raleigh, NC, Rachel (Brandon) Kostoroski of Oswego, Jesse (Ashlyn) Chillemi of Salisbury, NC, and Brian (Candace) Walczak of Bedford, NH; six great-grandchildren, Maddalena, Evelyn, and Michael Rowan, Wynter and Saylor Chillemi, Aeris Simmons, future great-grandson Kostoroski due in July, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was also predeceased by her siblings, Rosemary Frawley, Virginia Familo, Vincent Savona, and Nicasia Savona.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday June 13, 2024 at 10:00 AM in CTGS at St. Joseph’s Church.  Entombment will be in All Saints Mausoleum, Oswego. Calling hours will be Wednesday June 12, 2024 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at the Sugar & Scanlon Funeral Home 147 W. 4th. St. Oswego.
