Catherine McSweeney, 101, died peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday March 18th at St. Luke’s Health Services. She was born in Fulton to the late Thomas and Mary (Duggan) McSweeney. Catherine remained a lifelong resident of Fulton. Her siblings Edward, John and Marie McSweeney predeceased her. Catherine lived a wonderful life of service to God, family and friends. Her Irish smile and wit made her an instant friend. She had a generous heart and gave freely to others. Catherine was one of the early graduates of St. Mary’s School, Fulton and Fulton High School. Post graduation Catherine spent many years helping to run the McSweeney family boarding house. Following the deaths of her parents and brother, she spent nearly two decades as a Secretary at Sealright Co., and prior to retirement an additional ten years working as a Records Transcriber at Lee Memorial Hospital. She was a life long member of the Holy Family Altar Rosary Society, a member of the Catholic Daughters Court Pere LeMoyne #833 and an avid member of the Ancient Order of the Hibernians. She is survived by two nephews, Edward McSweeney of Boxborough, MA, and Thomas McSweeney of Westerville, Ohio, and several great nieces, nephews, cousins, and great great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Monday March 30, at 9:30 AM in Holy Trinity Church, corner of Rochester and South Third St., Fulton. Calling hours will be Sunday from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at the Sugar Funeral Home 224 West Second St. Fulton. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family has requested contributions be made to the John Foster Burden Fund, St. Luke Health Services, 299 E. River Rd, Oswego.
