Roy Neil Abbott

Roy Neil Abbott, 83, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2025 with his family at his side. Born on September 22, 1941, in Fulton, NY, he was the son of Carl O. Abbott and Pauline Ducharme Abbott.

Roy was a devoted husband to Carol Haske Abbott of 59 wonderful years. Together, they built a life centered on love, family, and resilience. He was a proud and caring father to Michael (Kathleen) Abbott of Connecticut, Craig (Kristin) Abbott of Victor, NY, Carolyn (Kenneth) Stevenson of Fulton, NY, and Alison (Douglas) Bohannon of Queensbury, NY, and a cherished grandfather to Connor, Ryan, Meghan, Jack, Ean, Camille, Gabriella, Calla, and Orion who brought him immense joy.

A graduate of Fulton High School, Class of 1959, Roy dedicated his life to building and craftsmanship. As a general contractor, his skill left a lasting imprint across Central New York. He also worked for the Town of Granby and SUNY Oswego before retiring.

Roy fully embraced retirement. He and Carol traveled extensively across the U.S., exploring new places, attending shows, and making countless memories together. But what he cherished most was the time spent with his grandchildren—whether teaching them something new, sharing stories, or simply enjoying their company, he found great fulfillment in being a guiding presence in their lives. He also found joy in the simple things that brought people together —morning coffee with his friends and countless hours playing pinochle.

An avid outdoorsman, Roy found his greatest happiness in nature—whether fishing, hunting, or spending time at camp. He shared his love for the outdoors with family, friends, and countless others through his role as a New York State Hunter Education Instructor. His passion for conservation and stewardship of the land was a guiding principle in his life.

Beyond the outdoors, Roy was deeply committed to his community. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club, Elks Club, and Oswego County 4-H, and he dedicated many years as a board member and treasurer of the Leatherstocking Club of CNY. Through these roles, he gave back tirelessly and enriched the lives of others.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Carl T. Abbott.

A private service to honor and celebrate Roy’s life will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations in Roy’s name to the Leatherstocking Club of CNY at P.O. Box 145, New Haven, NY 13121. The arrangements are in the care of the Sugar Funeral Home Inc. Fulton
