David G. Shoemaker, 77, of Granby died Tuesday, December 12, 2023, peacefully at home with his family by his side.
David was born in Syracuse the son of the late Grant and Olive (Howes) Shoemaker. He received his Master’s degree in education, and was a technology teacher at the Oswego High School, for over thirty years retiring in 2005. Upon his retirement he began his new career as a gentleman farmer, raising horses, growing Christmas trees, and pumpkins, and producing maple syrup, where he would share with everyone his good fortune. David enjoyed building, working with woods and metals, and reminding others to “Be Kind”.
He is survived by his loving wife Joy Shoemaker of Granby, and their children Annalee Harrell of Oswego, Kathy (Frank) Haught of SC, his siblings Jane Naylor of Az, Paul (Pamela) Shoemaker of Camillus, Charles (Cindy) Shoemaker of Manlius, and his loving grandchildren Benjamin (Erin) Harrell and Abigail Harrell.
In keeping with David’s wishes his services will be private. The arrangements are in the care of the Sugar Funeral Home Inc., 224 W. 2nd St. Fulton.

Sorry to hear the passing of David. He was one of the best cousins I had and we were both teachers
Love and prayers to his family
I am so sorry the loss of your Father is heartbreaking love you Kathy
This comes a day after I found an equally kind soul passing. I was in Mr Shoemaker’s classes. I really appreciated the description that he reminded others to “Be Kind”. The world we live in needs to have more like Mr Shoemaker. He made schools a fun place to go despite being bullied. Mr Shoemaker was patient and kind. He taught me digital logic but more importantly that fast is not always the best way of doing things. He helped me rebuild one of my parents coffee tables and also refinish their dining room table. The lessons he taught me I have tried to pass down to my own son as well as apprentices in the elevator trade. Though it has been well over 30 years since I was last taught by Mr. Shoemaker, his life lessons and voice can still be heard in my memory. Mr Shoemaker thank you for making High School a place of enjoyment though it was a place of fear as well. Being seen for who a person is on the inside despite the wrapper makes a deep impression. For the loss is great but the impact can be felt forever. Rest well my friend.
