
Frederick M. Sheffield, 78 of Oswego died Friday December 1, 2023 in St. Luke Health Services, after a long illness.
Fred was born in Oswego the son of the late Macel and Thelma (Peterson) Sheffield. He was an ironworker for Local # 60, Syracuse for 21 years before going to work for the City of Oswego as a heavy equipment driver for the Department of Public Works. Fred served in the United States Marine Corp., for two terms during the Vietnam War from 1963 until 1967. He was a friend of Bill W. for forty years, and he enjoyed the outdoors boating, fishing, and going camping.
The highlight of Fred’s life was spending time with his family, especially his beloved grandchildren, he cherished every moment.
Fred is survived by his wife of 56 years Mary (Oleyourryk) Sheffield of Oswego and their children Frederick (Jackie) Sheffield of NC; Edward (Lori) Sheffield of Lisbon, NY; Kelly (Antwan Lane) Sheffield of Oswego; Patrick (Chrystal) Sheffield of Oswego; his siblings Joan Cappell of FL; Kandis (Ted) Hills of FL; Chere (Michael) Shoemaker of TX; and stepbrother Phillip (Adele) Sheldon of Oswego. He is also survived by his grandchildren Sara (Justin Daniels) Sheffield; Jessica Sheffield; Michael Sheffield; Vanessa (Renel Potter) Sheffield; Tyree Varner; Makenzie Sheffield; Katrina Sheffield; Mikala Sheffield; Danika Sheffield, and his great grandchildren Evelyn and Rian Daniels, and Everett Sheffield, and Aris Potter.
Calling hours will be Thursday from 3:00 to 5:00 at Sugar & Scanlon Funeral Home, 147 W. 4th. St. Oswego.
