Salvatore “Sam” Firenze

Salvatore “Sam” Firenze, 92; formerly of Fulton, and Annapolis, MD passed away peacefully Thursday morning at his son’s home in Clay, NY. Mr. Firenze was born in Fulton, NY to the late Richard and Mary (Amico) Firenze. He was a United States Veteran having served in the Navy during WWII. Mr. Firenze retired in 1983 from Niagara Mohawk where he worked for several years as a Line Supervisor. He was an Umpire and Sports Referee. Mr. Firenze was very involved with the success of the Fulton Gauchos and the Syracuse Brigadiers Drum Corp. He was pre-deceased by his son David Firenze in 1994, and siblings Grace Raneri; Carmella Barnett, Virginia Carioti, Anthony and Paul Firenze. Mr. Firenze is survived by his children: Kathy Firenze of Florida; Mary Beth (Chuck) Modzelewski of Hamlin, NY; Samuel (Stephanie) Firenze of CO, and James (Kristine) Firenze of Clay, NY. He is also survived by his longtime partner Rose Rivera of MD, and her children Debra (Curt) Weinhold; Janice (Peter) Halverson, and Denise Rivera, and his 11 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be conducted 11:00 AM Wednesday at the Sugar Funeral Home, Inc., 224 W. 2nd St. S., Fulton with Rev. John Canorro officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fulton. Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM in the Sugar Funeral Home, Inc., Fulton. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of CNY, or the Alzheimer Association.
