Russel Stannard

Russel Stannard, 76, of Sterling died Thursday in the Oswego Hospital after a short illness. Mr. Stannard was born in Boonville, NY, the son of the late William and Winifred Stannard. He retired in 1995 as a chief lock operator for the NYS Canal Corp. He served in the US Navy from 1955 until 1969. Mr. Stannard was a member of the American Legion Post 1, Albany NY, and Past Commander of the American Legion Post 658, Fair Haven, he was the Fair Haven Village Trustee from 1974 until 1978 during their Bicentennial Celebration. Mr. Stannard is survived by his wife Patricia Stannard of Sterling, children Janice (Jeff Treasure) Skinner of Sterling, Darlene (Ron Dates) Burley of Martville, Lee Simpkins of Hannibal, Arica (Mark) Harteis of Oswego, sisters June MacArthur of Oswego, Carol Brookes of FL, Donna Cooke of Fair Haven, 13 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren. Funeral services and burial in Springbrook Cemetery will be private. The arrangements are in the care of the Sugar & Scanlon Funeral Home 147 W. 4th. St. Oswego
