Gerald A Grant, 61, died Saturday at the Oswego Hospital after a sudden attack. Mr. Grant was born in Fulton.  He had been a machine operator for thirteen years for Interface Solutions in Volney. He was predeceased by his father Leonard Grant and brother Norman Grant.  Mr. Grant is survived by his wife of thirty-nine years Debbie Grant of Fulton, two sons Jerry Grant Jr. of Fulton and Gary Grant of Fulton, his mother and stepfather Mary and Brindsley McCann of Futlon, four grandchildren, Kendra, Haley, Kyle, and Bekka, and one great grandchild Edan. Funeral services will be Wednesday 10:00 a.m. at the Sugar Funeral Home Inc., Fulton. Spring burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Calling hours will be Tuesday 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home 224 West Second Street, Fulton. Contributions may be made to the Make a Wish Foundation.

Nataleen Ferlito, 94, of Cherry Street, Oswego died Thursday morning peacefully with her family at her side. Mrs. Ferlito was born in Oswego the daughter of the late Peter and Catherine (Ponto) Losurdo. She was a former employee of the Diamond Match Factory, Ostead Foundation, Conn Knitting Mill, and Breneman Hartshorn, Oswego. She was a member of the Ostomy Society, and a dedicated member of St. Joseph Church. Mrs. Ferlito was an avid weather watcher, enjoyed baking, sewing and reading, and reveled in the company of her family and friends.  Mrs. Ferlito was predeceased by her husband John Ferlito March 9, 1993. She is survived by her son John (Carol) Ferlito of Oswego, daughter Angela (Paul) Voninski of Mexico, sister Kathleen (Frank) Mazzoli of Oswego and grandchildren Renee Ferlito, Tamara and Aleksandr Voninski, one great granddaughter, Vanessa and a great grandson, Axel. Funeral services will be conducted Monday 8:15 a.m. from the Sugar & Scanlon Funeral Home and 9:00 a.m. in St. Joseph Church. Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday 2:00 – 4:00 at the funeral home 147 West Fourth Street, Oswego.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Oswego Public Library for the purchase of large print books.

Marian Grasso, 91, a former resident of East Albany Street, Oswego died Monday evening in St. Luke Health Services. Mrs. Grasso was born in Oswego the daughter of the late Salvatore and Carmela (Gerace) Cernaro. Mrs. Grasso was a cashier at Loblaw’s in Oswego. She was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church and a dedicated member of St. Joseph’s Choir for more than forty-five years. Mrs. Grasso was predeceased by her husband Thomas Grasso in 1989, and her brothers and sisters Joseph Cernaro, Theresa Ciappa, Charles Cernaro, Benny Cernaro, Phil Cernaro, and Mary Cernaro. She is survived by two sons Thomas Grasso of Rosendale, NY, Joseph (Sue) Grasso of Rome, two daughters Teresa Grasso of Oswego, and Maryann (Michael) Masuicca of Oswego, eight grandchildren, J.Scott Tripp, Marianne Thomas, Michael John Masuicca, Molly Davis, Wolfe Lewis, Joseph Grasso, Angela Fecteau, and Joshua Grasso, eight great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday 9:15 from the Sugar & Scanlon Funeral Home, Oswego, and 10:00 am in St. Joseph Church. Burial will be in All Saints Mausoleum. Calling hours will be Friday 4:00 – 7:00 pm at the funeral home 147 West Fourth Street, Oswego.  Contributions may be made to St. Joseph’s Choir, or the Oswego YMCA.

Kenneth Lyle Pelton

Kenneth Lyle Pelton, 88, of Rome died Monday, February 15th, at the Rome Hospital. He was born in Taberg, NY the son of the late Morton and Daisy Pelton. Mr. Pelton was a graduate of Rome Free Academy in 1939.  He was a Veteran of the United States Army having served during World War II.  He was a life member of the Rome Elks Lodge, and a member of the VFW Post #2246.  Mr. Pelton was a volunteer fireman for the Rome Volunteer Fire Dept.  He walked and raised funds for the March of Dimes and was a Eucharistic Minister at St. Paul’s Church for many years.  Mr. Pelton retired from Griffiss Air Force Base where he worked as an electronic technician.  He is survived by his wife of 58 years Susan Pelton of Rome, NY, his sisters:  Betty Riegler, Gladys (Fred) Jackson and sister-in-law Kay DeSimone all of Rome, and several nieces and nephews especially Colleen and Michael Dunn of Rome.  Funeral Services will be conducted 11:00 AM Saturday at St. Paul’s Church, Rome, NY.  Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery, Rome, NY.  Calling hours will be conducted 4:00 to 7:00 PM Friday at Barry Funeral Home, West Chestnut St. Rome, NY.  Arrangements are in the care of the Sugar Funeral Home, Inc., 224 W. 2nd St. S. Fulton.

Barbara “Betty” Witowski

Barbara “Betty” Witowski, 95; of Fulton died Sunday at St. Luke Health Services.  She was born in Fulton, NY to the late Anna (Sullivan) and Martin Culkin.  She remained a lifetime resident of Fulton.  Mrs. Witowski retired from the accounting department in Sealright Co., Fulton after 20+ years of service.  Mrs. Witowski prepared the NYS Bingo reports for Holy Family Church.  She was a member of the Holy Family Altar Rosary Society. Mrs. Witowski and her husband shared their love of traveling out of state and to various beaches with their nieces and nephews.  She was an avid seamstress and gardener and willingly passed on her knowledge to her family.  “Aunt Betty” always enjoyed being a part of her nieces’ and nephews’ lives and she tried to listen, support and enrich them by always giving unconditional love to each and everyone of them.  She was pre-deceased by her husband of 55 years Stanley “Toots”  Witowski in 2002, her siblings: F. Charles Culkin, Marjorie Culkin, Robert J. Culkin Sr, and nephew Robert J. Culkin Jr.  She is survived by her sisters-in-law Virginia Colocino and Genevieve Witowski, nieces and nephews:  Richard Swierczek, Winifred Larkin, Patricia Culkin, Carol Tribble, Linda Hickein, Robert Colocino, Jean Ann Niver, Sandra Colocino, Dennis Colocino, Ronald Colocino, her cousin Charlene Mirabito and several great nieces and nephews.  Funeral Services will be conducted 9:30 AM Friday at Holy Trinity Church where a mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.  Burial will be held in the spring at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fulton.  Calling hours will be held 4:00 to 6:00 PM Thursday at the Sugar Funeral Home, Inc., 224 W. 2nd St. S. Fulton.

Paul E. Miller, 68; formerly of Florida died Thursday evening at home.  He was born in Fulton and was a longtime resident of Fulton before moving to Florida in 1994.  He was a United States Veteran having served in the Navy from 1958 to 1964.  Mr. Miller owned and operated Miller’s Mobil Station in Fulton.  He was a member of the Fulton Elk’s Lodge and was a Past Exalted Ruler.  He was a member of the Pathfinder Fish and Game Club and the Almond Gun Club.  He enjoyed camping and car racing.  He was pre-deceased by his sister Lois Dumas in 2000.  He is survived by his wife Ann Miller of Fulton, daughters Leigh Ann Miller of Fulton and Debbie (Steve) Gates of Mexico, his brother George (Cheryl) Miller of Fulton, his granddaughter Megan Flint and several nieces and nephews.  Funeral Services will be conducted Monday at 7:00 PM at the Sugar Funeral Home, Inc., with Rev. Eric Harer officiating.  Burial will be held in the spring at Fairdale Cemetery, Hannibal.  Calling hours will be held 4:00 to 7:00 PM Monday at the Sugar Funeral Home, Inc., 224 W. 2nd St. S. Marilyn Huntington, 85, of Scriba, died Sunday with her family by her side in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Syracuse. She was born in Oswego, and lived in Connecticut from 1956 until 1996 when she moved back to Oswego. Mrs. Huntington loved to cook, read, and enjoyed flowers. Her favorite pass time was to watch the Yankee’s and cheer “Go Jeter”. Mrs. Huntington married the love of her life Robert Huntington whom predeceased her November 2, 1980, and two sons Robert and William Huntington predeceased them in 1969. She is survived by her children Larry (Maryann) Huntington of CT, and Lynn Huntington of Oswego, and three grandchildren Hailey, Danielle, and Nicole. Funeral Services will be private. Burial will be in CT. The arrangements are in the care of the Sugar & Scanlon Funeral Home 147 West Fourth Street, Oswego.

Francine Naioti Canale of Fulton died Sunday at University Hospital.  She was born in Manhattan to the late Francis and Marion Champagne.  She has been a resident of Fulton for most of her life.  Mrs. Canale retired fro the Fulton consolidated School System after her service for several years as a History Teacher at the Fulton Junior High School.  She was an avid reader and supporter of the library.  Mrs. Canale enjoyed gardening and animals.  She was well known for completing the morning crossword puzzle in pen.  Mrs. Canale was a loyal fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Detroit Tigers, and Notre Dame College Football team.  She loved children and acted as a mother to many. She was pre-deceased by her first husband Barney Naioti and second husband Ben Canale.  She is survived by her son Barney (Tina) Naioti of Fulton, and her daughter Terri (Rod) Alzmann of West Islip, NY, her brother Bradley (Lou) Champagne of Syracuse, and 4 grandchildren:  Jessica, Rod, Jaime, and Andrew.  Funeral Services will be held at 8:30 AM Saturday in the Sugar Funeral Home, Inc. and 9:00 AM in Holy Trinity Church where a mass of Christian burial will be celebrated.  Burial will be held in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Oswego.  Calling hours will be conducted 4:00 to 7:00 PM Friday in the Sugar Funeral Home, Inc., 224 W. 2nd St. S. Constance DeSantis

Constance “Connie” DeSantis, 78, of Oswego died Saturday in University Hospital. She was born in Fulton, the daughter of the late Louis and Mary Bevacqua, and she has been a resident of Oswego since 1953. Connie was a registered nurse for the Oswego Hospital; in addition she worked for the Oswego City School District as the secretary for the Athletic Director, and retired in 1996 as a secretary at Frederick Leighton Elementary School. Connie was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church, and founded the St. Joseph’s Prayer Line. She was a member of the Clerical Association of Oswego Schools, and Frederick Leighton School Retirement Club. Connie was a Red Cross volunteer, and volunteered at the McManus Christmas Project. Her grandson Stephen Thomas, and her sister Mary Louise Bevacqua, SMA, predeceased her. Connie is survived by her husband of fifty-six years Phil DeSantis of Oswego, and their children Phil (Bev) DeSantis Jr. of FL, Mark (Sandy) DeSantis of Fulton, Mary (Bob) Thomas of Fayetteville, Fran (Amy) DeSantis of PA, John (Nichole) DeSantis of LA. In addition to her husband and children her seven grandchildren, Laura, Andi, Nick, Crissy, Elizabeth, Melissa and Iriel, and three great grandchildren Johnny, Shane, and Haille survive her. Funeral services will be conducted Friday 9:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, Oswego, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery. Loretta Sica, 78, of Oswego died Friday February 5, in the Oswego Hospital after a short illness. She was born in Bronx, NY the daughter of the late Joseph and Nellie Sica, and she has been a resident of Oswego since 1981. Loretta retired from AT&T in 1981 as a supervisor after thirty years of service. She was predeceased by her brother Frank Sica, and sisters Frances Prisco, and Emily Stephenson. Loretta is survived by her nieces and nephews Margaret, Mary, and Joseph Prisco, Frank and Richard Sica, and a close friend Theresa Branchcomb.
