Mary Walsh, 75, of Oswego passed away at home on Sunday with her family by her side. She was born in Oswego, the daughter of the late Joseph and Concetta (Gambino) Solazzo Sr.
Mary was a 1956 graduate of Oswego High School and was employed by the Oswego County Mental Health Department and secretary for Local 73 Business Plumbers & Steamfitters, managed by David “Bucky” Lavery.
She was a devout communicant of St. Josephs Roman Catholic Church, and her faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was proud to be the mother of Thomas and Bernie, and considered them her greatest accomplishment. She made time every day to visit and enjoy her family and friends, and her laughter could always be heard. The essence of Mary was seen in her warm and encompassing smile. Her strong spirit exemplified graceful dignity and a positive attitude.
She is survived by her husband Thomas Walsh of Oswego, sons Thomas Walsh of Hannibal, Bernard (Tammy) Walsh of Pennsylvania, brothers Joseph and Michael Solazzo of Oswego, sisters Jane Farfaglia of Fulton, Anna Fitzsimmons, Connie S. Pelkey, and Frances Solazzo all of Oswego, two grandchildren Bernard Jr. and Nicholas Walsh and many nieces and nephews.
Her sisters Augustina Bendzunas, Rose Solazzo, and brothers Nicholas, Tony, Dominic, and John Solazzo predeceased Mary, as well as her Godchild Mark Solazzo.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 8:30 am from the Sugar & Scanlon Funeral Home Oswego, 9:00 am in St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Sugar & Scanlon Funeral Home 147 W. Fourth St. Oswego. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to Friends of Oswego County Hospice or to St. Joseph’s Church.
It saddens me to learn of Aunt Mary’s passing. Her smile, energy, and kindness always brightened a room. Although miles away, my thoughts are with you all.
