John Waloven, 71; of Oswego passed away suddenly Monday at his home. He was born in Fulton, NY to the late John and Ann (Evans) Waloven. Mr. Waloven was a past resident of Fulton and Hannibal and he had been a resident of Oswego for several years. Mr. Waloven was a United States Vietnam Veteran having served in the Navy from 1966-1972. He retired in 2008 from the New York State Canal Corp., having been a Lock Operator for more than 30 years. Mr. Waloven was a past committeeman for the Conservative Party of Oswego. He had been an avid hunter in his earlier years and still loved classic cars, car shows, and music. Mr. Waloven loved politics and enjoyed debating both local, national, and international politics. Mr. Waloven was pre-deceased by his wife Marleen Waloven in 2012, and sisters: Patricia Knappi and Ann Jurenko. He is survived by his 3 daughters: Sherrie (Robert) DeStevens of Syracuse, Lorraine Waloven of Oswego, and Valerie (Ryan) Meagher of Clay, 2 brothers: Gregory (Lynn) Waloven of Hannibal, and Christopher (Tammy) Waloven of Hannibal, 3 grandsons: Brandon Waloven, Jacob DeStevens, and Joshua DeStevens and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held 10:00 AM to Noon Friday at the Sugar Funeral Home, Inc., 224 W. 2nd St. S., Fulton followed by a Funeral Service at Noon with Rev. Nick Alvaro officiating. Military honors will be bestowed by the U.S. Navy Funeral Honor Guard. Burial will be held in the spring at Riverside Cemetery, Oswego, NY
