John V. Closs, 83; of Fulton died Thursday at Seneca Hill Manor, Oswego after a long illness. He was born in Wilma, NY and he has been a resident of Fulton for most of his life. Mr. Closs was a US Veteran having served in the Navy during WWII from 1944 to 1946 in the South Pacific. He served as a Ship’s Cook Third Class. He received the American Theatre Medal, Victory Medal, and the Asiatic-Pacific Medal-1 Star. He was retired having worked with Columbia Mills , Minetto, NY for over 20 years and Victoria Mills, Fulton for 10 years. Mr. Closs was a member of the Fulton VFW Post #569. He was pre-deceased by his brother Robert Paul Closs. Mr. Closs is survived by his wife of 57 years Mary Closs of Fulton, 2 children Joan Marie (Gene) Seabaugh of Erie, CO; and Gary J. Closs of New Port Ritchey, FL, his sisters Florence Clearo of Denver, CO; and Dorothy (Paul) Musch of Central Square, NY. Funeral Services will be held 3:00 pm Monday in the Sugar Funeral Home, Inc., 224 W., 2nd St. S. Fulton with Rev. David Grey officiating. Burial will be held in the spring at Fairdale Cemetery, Hannibal, NY. Calling hours will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 pm Monday prior to the funeral service.
