John J. Grasso Sr., 90, of Oswego passed away Wednesday September 16, 2015 in Seneca Hill Manor. John was born in Oswego the son of the late Salvatore and Grace Grasso. John served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a prisoner of war in Germany, and escaped with two other soldiers on Easter Sunday in 1945, and was honorably discharged later that year. He was a tile setter by trade working for various companies in Western and Central NY. Later he owned and operator of Grasso Excavating, Oswego. John was a communicant of St. Joseph Church, and a member of the Dante Alighieri Lodge. He is survived by his wife Concetta “Connie” Parisi Grasso of Oswego, and their children Jeanette (Randall) Woodland of Oswego; Mary (Gary) Caywood of SC; John Grasso Jr of Oswego; Paul (Caryn) Grasso of AZ; Benny Grasso of Oswego; Catherine (Jeffrey) Quinn of Camillus; his sister Eileen Schulz of Central Square; 16 grandchildren , and 8 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents John was predeceased by his siblings Santo Grasso; Concetta Donahue; and Josephine Donabella. Funeral services will be Monday 9:30 from the Sugar & Scanlon Funeral Home, and 10:00 a.m. in St. Joseph Church. Burial will be in St Peter’s Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home 147 W. 4th. St. Oswego.
