James A. Gardner, 86, of Fulton died Sunday at his home surrounded by his family. Mr. Gardner was born in Fulton, the son of the late Loren and Gladys Gardner. Mr. Gardner retired in 1991 from the North End Papermill, where he worked in the shipping and receiving department. He was a member of the All Saints Episcopal Church, and the Fulton VFW Post 569. Mr. Gardner served in the United States Army during WWII. He was the recipient of the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Ribbon with three Bronze Stars, combat Infantryman Badge, Distinguished Unit Badge, Good Conduct Medal, and the Purple Heart with one Oak Leaf Cluster. He was predeceased by his brothers Donald and Robert Gardner. Mr. Gardner is survived by his wife of forty-eight years Florence Gardner of Fulton, children Eileen (Jim Steele) Clark of Mexico, James L. (Mary) Gardner of Syracuse, Cheryl (Thomas) Farrell of TX, sister Norma (Joseph Brown) Wilson of Fulton, grandchildren Sherri, Tom, Brandy, Adam, Kate, Steven, five great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services will Thursday 9:30 a.m. at the Sugar Funeral Home, Fulton, with Rev. Harold Avery. Spring burial will be in Chase Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday 4:00 – 7:00 at the funeral home 224 W. 2nd. St. S. Fulton. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the VA Hospice Program, 800 Irving Ave., Syracuse, NY 13210.
