Joe Chalifoux, 79, of Fulton, passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2013, at Syracuse Home’s in Baldwinsville, NY. He was a graduate of Fulton High School and the University College in Syracuse. He was a long time employee of Niagara Mohawk , retiring in 1994 after 42 years. Joe served in several capacities while at Niagara Mohawk, including: a surveyor in Northern New York (1952-1966), Consumer Relations in the Baldwinsville Office (1966-1976), and Community Relations Director for the Central Division (1976-1994). Joe was also well-known for his political service to the community, serving as an Alderman for the City of Fulton from 1967-1971, a member of the Oswego County Board of Legislators from 1971-1976, and a member of the CENTRO board of directors from 1977-2009. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of nearly 50 years, Shirley (Hamilton) Chalifoux, in 2004. Joe and Shirley enjoyed spending time in The Villages in Lady Lake, Florida, as well as at their Adirondack camp on Lake Titus near Malone, NY. He is survived by his three sons, Daniel (Kris) Chalifoux of Oswego, Richard (Janet) Chalifoux of Gainesville, Florida, and Dave (Robin) Chalifoux of Baldwinsville, seven grandchildren and three brothers: Thomas (Gerry) Chalifoux of Fulton, William (Marge) Chalifoux of Baxley, Georgia and Fran (Betsy) Chalifoux of Waldorf, Maryland. Funeral services will be conducted Monday December 2, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. from the Sugar Funeral Home Inc., Fulton and 9:30 a.m. in Holy Trinity Church, Fulton where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Robert Stephenson. Calling hours will be Sunday December 1, 2013 from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home 224 W. 2nd. St. S. Fulton. Contributions may be made in memory of Joseph Chalifoux to the Syracuse Home’s activity fund 7740 Meigs Road, Baldwinsville, NY 13027.
